Preventing yet another 9/11 has dominated U.S. nationwide stability policy for the past 20 many years. For the duration of this time, the world has altered radically, and so have the threats and challenges that our state faces. Additionally, immediately after two a long time, we can see which of our countrywide safety tactics have labored, which have not, and which have really prompted harm — to innocent populations overseas and to our personal pluralistic society. But our govt has been slow to adapt to these modifications and lessons.

This series of essays, by experts from a range of backgrounds and views, presents a 30,000-foot critique of exactly where we went improper after 9/11 and a vision for how we really should be approaching nationwide stability today. They address a selection of issues, from racial profiling to top secret wars to mass surveillance to the potential of the Section of Homeland Stability. The authors consist of past and present customers of Congress, previous senior government department officers, authorized scholars, and Brennan Heart professionals. 

We can guard our countrywide protection whilst respecting democratic values and main constitutional freedoms. These essays provide a blueprint for executing just that.
