The team behind the Make It 16 campaign will before long be heading to the New Zealand Supreme Court to look for declaration that avoiding 16 and 17 year-olds from voting is age discrimination and a breach of the Monthly bill of Legal rights. 

Andy Mycock works with a British isles group advocating for reducing the voting age and has been subsequent developments in New Zealand closely. Mycock says it is noteworthy that campaigners listed here have adopted a legal route to potential reform. He says it goes against the mainstream constitutional strategy adopted in other nations – these types of as Scotland and Wales – exactly where supportive political functions passed parliamentary laws to reform the voting age.
