Science & Arts Academy (SAA), an independent school for gifted students in Des Plaines, is hosting a live virtual parent education event titled “Enriching and Extending Reading for Your Gifted Child” on Tuesday, January 26 from 2- 2:30 p.m. Part of SAA’s Snapshot event series offering the community quick 30-minute virtual events for parents, this event is free and open to the public.
“Enriching and Extending Reading for Your Gifted Child”will feature SAA’s own Dr. Ama Thompson offering parents different ideas to cultivate a deeper reading experience for their gifted children, including book selection tips and practical enrichment and extension ideas. Dr. Thompson leads the Student Support Team at SAA, providing assistance to teachers and parents in order to meet the needs of SAA students. She has spent over 20 years in education and has an M.A. in Learning Disabilities and a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Northwestern University.
SAA’s Director of Enrollment, Mindy Hildebrandt, has developed the Snapshot event series for the local community, recognizing the need for quick, valuable and real-time interaction between parents and experts. “We are pleased to serve as a resource for the broader gifted community and provide opportunities for parents to make connections and ask questions.”
Parents are invited to register for SAA’s Snapshot events on the school’s website at scienceandartsacademy.org/events.
