Here’s a look at the scores and highlights from Thursday’s high school action on the SouthCoast.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
GNB Voc-Tech 3, Taunton 0
With the 25-10, 25-14, 25-20 win, the Bears punched their ticket to the playoffs. Ethan Fagundes led the way with 11 kills and 12 digs while Evan Fagundes added four kills and nine digs. Alberto Gomes had 19 assists and eight digs and Colin Stuessi added 10 digs. Cody Raposa chipped in with eight digs. Voc-Tech (8-0, 4-0) hosts North Quincy on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
BASEBALL
GNB Voc-Tech 8, Dartmouth 7, 8 innings
Evan Mello went 2-for-4 and had the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Bears. Cam Cabral went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and Noah Mello was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Jase Samagaio pitched four innings of relief for the win. He improves to 3-0 with an ERA of 0.00. For Dartmouth (6-2, 2-0 SEC), Keegan Humason had three hits and two RBIs while Harvey Berube and Ethan Marques each had a pair of hits. Berube also scored two runs as did Chace Feno. Christian Silva added two RBIs.
SOFTBALL
Silver Lake 6, Apponequet 0
Caleigh Venuti had a hard-hit single while Morgan Saraceno landed the perfect bunt down the first base line and had a strong defensive performance at center field, chasing down fly balls for Apponequet (4-5, 2-3 SCC). Sofia Estrella had nine strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
GIRLS TENNIS
Wareham 4, Fairhaven 1
The undefeated Vikings swept doubles action with No. 1 Olivia Powers and Mackenzie Brodley beating Fairhaven’s Abby Lopes and Olivia Darmofal 6-3, 6-1 and No. 2 Fredi Gakadis and Allison Sciaraffa winning 5-7, 6-0, 10-5 over Katherine St. Amand and Min Wu at No. 2. Wareham also captured singles wins from No. 1 Brooklyn Bindas 6-2, 6-0 over Kaydin Pinto and No. 2 Saige Galhardo over previously undefeated Elizabeth DaCunha 6-3, 6-4. Fairhaven’s lone win came at third singles where Sabrina Zheng defeated Guiliana L’Homme 6-0, 6-0. The Blue Devils (8-2, 3-2 SCC) face Bourne on Monday. The Vikings (11-0, 8-0 SCC) host Somerset Berkley on Tuesday.
Dartmouth 3, Apponequet 2
Winning for Dartmouth was Bronte Massucco at third singles (6-3, 6-2) and the first doubles team of Julia Caron and Adeline Ablett (6-3, 6-4) and the second doubles team of Alexandra Cojocaru and Nina Cunha (6-2, 6-3). Apponequet’s Maya Fontinha won 6-1, 6-1 at first singles while Kohana Fontinha was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 2. Dartmouth (3-4, 1-0 SEC) hosts Barnstable on May 2.
Old Rochester 5, Case 0
The Bulldogs (6-2, 5-1 SCC) visit Bourne on Tuesday.
Brockton 3, New Bedford 2
New Bedford’s Emma Gibney won 6-0, 6-2 at first singles while Sofia Beltran Fuenzalida was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 2. The Whalers (0-6, 0-3 SCC) visit Bishop Connolly on May 2.
BOYS TENNIS
Old Rochester 5, Case 0
Sophomore Chase Besancon earned his first varsity win as he teamed up with Peter le Gassick to win 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3) at first doubles. Old Rochester’s second doubles team of Jed Dupre and Matt Modracek won 6-2, 6-3 while the Bulldogs swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Jacob Hadley (6-2, 6-4), No. 2 Marc Pothier (6-3, 6-3) and No. 3 Spencer Merolla (6-0, 6-0). ORR (6-3, 5-1 SCC) hosts Bourne on Tuesday.
Dartmouth 4, Bishop Stang 1
Dartmouth (6-1) swept doubles action with wins from No. 1 Charlie Camisa and Kevin Leong over Brendan Resende and Matthew Carvsi (6-1, 6-2) and No. 2 Shreyas Rathod and Owen Nielson over Scott Carter and Noah Yetman (6-0, 6-1). Dartmouth got singles wins from No. 2 Dylan Marshall over Trevor Squire (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 Luke Bloom-Glover over Thomas Clavell (6-2, 6-1). Bishop Stang’s lone win came at first singles, where Elijah Swift beat Justin Kerney 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in a thriller. The Spartans (5-1, 5-0 CCL) host Bishop Feehan on May 2.
Fairhaven 5, Wareham 0
The Blue Devils swept singles action with wins from No. 1 Kole Pinto over Nate Wiley (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Isaac Petruski over Seamus Braley (6-1, 6-1), and No. 3 Coby Yin over Landon Stewart (6-0, 6-0). Fairhaven’s first doubles team of Liam Reynolds and Chris Hu defeated Cedrick Georges and Alex Burdick 6-0, 6-0 while Noah Pacheco and Jacob Medeiros were 6-3, 6-2 winners over Boon Oulette and Julian Garcia at No. 2. The Blue Devils (6-3, 4-0 SCC) visit Bourne on Monday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Archbishop Williams 10, Bishop Stang 9
Maddie Kippe was strong in goal for the Spartans in their first game on the school’s new turf field. Leah Katz led the offense with four goals and one assist while Teal Galligan added one goal and two assists. Sofie Doucet(two goals and four draw controls), Sydney Plouffe (one goal) and Ellie Jones (one goal) also contributed. “The second half intensity for the Spartans was awesome,” said Stang head coach Alison Caito-Galligan. “It was an incredible effort from the entire defense.” The Spartans (0-7, 0-5 CCL) visit Bridgewater-Raynham on Saturday at noon.
BOYS TRACK
Apponequet 74, GNB Voc-Tech 62
Winning events for the Lakers (1-2) were Logan Miller in the javelin and 200, Marcellus Colley in the 100 and 110 high hurdles, Ethan Brown in the shot put, Aidan Miller in the mile and Lucas Quinn in the 2-mile.
GIRLS TRACK
Apponequet 81, GNB Voc-Tech 46
The Lakers got wins from Emma Marra in the 100 (13.4) and 200m (28.2), Bella Sergio in the 800 (2:44), Gianna Sarkisian in the 400 hurdles (76), Madie Hayward in the 100 hurdles (18.1), Meria Colley in the discus, Bella Gagnier in the javelin, Morgan Hayward in the 400 and Ava Dixon in the mile. The Lakers (2-1) visit Somerset Berkley on May 5.
