Student exchange scheme with Masnieres discussed

St Peter Port and Masnieres twinned in 2019, and are hoping to just take the next move by involving young people today from each spots.

‘2017 marked the 100th anniversary of a significant battle in Masnieres, in which the Royal Guernsey Mild Infantry held the line for the Allies and missing 40% of its gentlemen,’ said Chris Oliver, chairman of the RGLI Rely on.

‘We installed a memorial there, and the RGLI experience visited a few of months in the past, and so for our third stream we required to require younger individuals by an exchange scheme for learners in Guernsey and Masnieres to practical experience the other.’

Mr Oliver stated the plan will add to turning commemoration into tradition. The island associates will meet associates of Masnieres education solutions and of Jacques Prevet faculty.

‘It is actually critical to us to create the marriage immediately after the twinning in 2019, as Covid prevented this from going on for the previous two a long time,’ reported Mr Oliver.

‘We are really seeking ahead to pushing this initiative onwards.’

The team leaves for France upcoming Thursday, and through their trip will also be assembly with nearby historians and the Mayor, acquiring excursions of battlefields and other notable places which the learners might visit, and most importantly sorting out the logistics for an trade plan.
